Farmstead Wines

13 Jan

Farmstead Wines distributes one of the most impressive collections of wines in the business. Their portfolio is unusually sound, with virtually nothing to criticize, other than their slightly luxurious pricetags. To top it off, Farmstead imports only true artisanal products: naturally farmed, handcrafted wines from small producers. Look for the Farmstead seal (pictured).

Martin Arndorfer

Grüner Veltliner

Strasser Weinberge 2006

Strass, Austria

$32.99 Everything Wine

Grüner Veltliner, grown primarily in Austria, produces bright, crisp, food-friendly wines of excellent quality. This example, courtesy the 24 year old Martin Arndorfer, is a brilliant straw yellow colour with the slightest greenish tinge. It is equally lively on the nose, with lime, flinty-mineral and light floral notes. A bright, almost effervescent acidity on the tongue with more lime, stone and honey. There is a slight viscous richness on the palate balanced nicely by mouthwatering acidity. 90 points – Excellent

Renato Fenocchio

Dolcetto 2006

Dolcetto d’Alba DOC, Italy

$26.99 Everything Wine

Fenocchio’s Dolcetto has a rich, fruity nose with aromas of cherries, prunes and tar. The medium-bodied palate is dominated by bright red berries and floral notes; root beer, earth and black pepper follow, supported by a backbone of lightly spicy tannins and fine acidity. 90 points – Excellent
